Best Practices From Deep in the Heart of Texas


Excitement is building, with the 10th Anniversary Leadership Exchange less than three months away. They say everything’s bigger in Texas, and this annual best practices trip will be no exception.

Each year we take about 100 or so CEOs and government leaders to visit a peer or model city on our Leadership Exchange trip to find out what our Kansas City region is doing well, and what we have yet to learn. (Curious about the other cities we’ve seen? They’re Pittsburgh, San Diego, Cincinnati, Minneapolis, Seattle, Nashville, Denver, Indianapolis, and Charlotte!)

Not so "Big KC" Challenge - Month One


Now that Mayor James and I have completed the first month of the five month Not So "Big KC" Challenge, a few quick observations:

By the nature of our jobs, Sly and I are together frequently, which makes the Challenge all the more fun! There’s plenty of good-natured ribbing and even some modest trash talking but for any observer, we’re just two long-time friends who are having fun with this. When it comes to the Challenge, Sly is his typical dedicated, committed and very competitive self – and so am I. At this point, I’d say we’re neck-and-neck and both working hard. More fun to come as we are scheduling a number of events together where we can invite other folks from Greater Kansas City to join us.
