The KC Chamber’s World Trade Center in conjunction with the Chamber’s Entrepreneurship group held a joint event this month, “Innovative Businesses Brewing Up International Markets
.” There is a clear need for companies to think globally from the start as the business ecosystem has become more interconnected. With that in mind, we heard from local companies that work globally. Our panelists shared their insights and experiences on what it takes to break down national borders and work in today's international environment. The panelists included:
Jeff Krum, President, Boulevard Brewing Co.
Mark Hrinya, COO, Pulse Aerospace LLC
Walt Lester, Owner, Spiceman Enterprises
Ben Kittrell, Co-Founder, Doodlekit
Mary Rooney, MIQ Logistics (moderator)
What we heard during this panel discussion is that there are many different reasons that a company starts working internationally, sometimes by accident and sometimes very intentionally, but to maintain and sustain this growth it has to be intentional. This presentation provided organizations the opportunity to learn from companies that are at various stages of international trade. Additionally, the consensus among the panel is that all organizations must start thinking about markets far beyond where a business is physically located. As a Kansas City community we want to do everything we can grow these companies. The net gain for Kansas City has the potential to be massive.
