Small, Diverse, and Emerging Business Council

In 2012, The Chamber has reinvigorated its efforts for small businesses with the creation of the new Small, Diverse and Emerging Business Council. The new Council was formed based on input from member focus groups conducted earlier this year. Chamber members identified needs specific to high-growth businesses, minority-owned businesses, and the wide-ranging needs of small businesses from one to 250 employees.

The Council is a Chamber priority, as over 80 percent of Chamber members are small businesses. The Chamber is known as home to the largest Small Business Celebration in the United States as well as a centralized repository of resources for small business.

The mission of the Council is to advise on ways to help members access small business resources, identify new resources needed and assist with one of The Chamber’s Big 5 ideas for our region: Making Kansas City “America’s Most Entrepreneurial City,” which is championed by Peter deSilva, chairman and CEO, UMB Bank.
