Kansas City, Missouri – The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that Académie Lafayette was one of the recipients of its inaugural Clean School Bus Program's grant in Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. The grant provides funds to schools to enhance their transportation infrastructure and contribute to a cleaner environment. Académie Lafayette partnered with Highland Fleets to secure funding and operational support for its fleet electrification.

The funds will allow Académie Lafayette to expand its own fleet by purchasing four new electric school buses and chargers, offering a healthier and more sustainable mode of transportation for its students.

"This grant supplements our strong efforts to provide reliable, clean, and safe bus service to our students. By investing in new school buses, we are not only prioritizing the health of our students but also actively participating in creating a more viable and eco-friendly future,” shared Mr. Elimane Mbengue, Head of School.

Académie Lafayette, a non-profit, tuition-free French immersion public charter school, was founded in 1999 as Missouri’s first charter, providing a high-quality public education option for families in Kansas City. Académie Lafayette educates 1,350 students across three campuses, offers the rigorous International Baccalaureate Middle Years and Diploma Programmes, and scored in the top 10% of Missouri school districts in the 2023 APR (Annual Performance Report).
