KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Marilyn (Blond) Melcher will soon join the Board of Directors at Wayside Waifs as Honorary Board Member.

Marilyn will continue the legacy of her late husband, Harold Melcher, through her honorary board role. Harold passed away in February of this year.

Marilyn has been actively supporting Wayside for more than 20 years. She, along with her late husband, have been instrumental leaders in Wayside’s history. While the passion for saving animals started with Harold, it quickly became important to Marilyn as well. Their efforts saved hundreds of thousands of homeless animals. Their support changed the landscape of Wayside’s campus by adding a Bark Park and Courtesy Comfort Station. Additionally, they saw the importance in Humane Education and allowed more than 30,000 children to be taught life-changing lessons in compassion, empathy, and respect.

Marilyn was born in June 1925. She attended Smith College in Massachusetts. Now she lives in the Kansas City area. She has three children and five grandchildren who live in various places throughout the country.
