Pandemic can’t slow growth for local IT firm

Overland Park, Kansas Despite an unquestionably challenging year for business, one Overland Park-based IT consulting firm has found innovative ways to grow its staff, service lines and geographic area.

Veracity Consulting, a tech consulting team of trusted advisors serving both commercial and government clients, has not only survived the 2020 pandemic and economic recession but thrived in spite of it. In fact, this past year is only the latest in a steady upward trend, with the company seeing a compound annual growth rate of 26.5% over the last 10 years.

The growth in 2020 began this spring with the addition of a new cybersecurity service line, designed to respond to the needs of so many companies forced to shift employees to working from home. Veracity offered a vulnerability assessment and employee training service to help business owners identify and prioritize the weak spots in their systems and infrastructure, and train employees how to identify phishing attempts and the latest cyber threats.

The company also made key steps to expand the presence and capability of its federal team, including the opening of a new Washington, D.C., office in September. The new office was possible due to the immense growth in the space after Veracity hired Chris Barr, vice president of federal operations, in October 2019. In the past year, Barr has expanded the company’s federal business and the team, including the addition of three new business development employees: Jonas Henkensiefken and Amanda Leonard earlier this year, and most recently Myran Hunter, the new director of business development. Joining in August, Hunter brings experience in federal business acquisition and is helping Veracity’s business development teams achieve their performance goals. The team has won four new federal contracts with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency this year, totaling nearly $17 million in new business.

Just last month, Michelle Young joined the company as the new vice president of marketing, bringing with her more than 20 years of experience in strategy, product GTM plans, marketing analytics, lead generation, sales enablement and entrepreneurship. Since Young’s arrival, she has already added talent to the team, with the addition of Kevin Smith, new creative design manager, who will manage digital and graphic design, branding and multimedia strategies.

“While 2020 continues to bring uncertainty, we feel grateful we’ve been able to adapt our approach to ensure we not only continue to help businesses and agencies across the country but also ensure job stability for our employees and consultants around the U.S.,” said Founder and CEO Angela Hurt. “One of our biggest strengths is the ability to evolve and adapt to the technology needs of our clients, and I’m confident this year has allowed us to become even more resilient—and ready for whatever comes our way in 2021.”
