Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband service coming to Kansas City in 2019

New service will provide real-time connections for consumers and businesses

Kansas City, MO – Today, Verizon identified Kansas City as one of 20 U.S. cities that will receive Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband service in 2019. Earlier this year, Verizon committed to providing 5G Ultra Wideband service in more than 30 U.S. cities by the end of 2019. Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband network is currently live in Chicago and Minneapolis.

5G will positively impact lives across Kansas City – in places like schools, hospitals and local businesses. 5G has the potential to make really big waves in exciting and life-enhancing spaces such as artificial intelligence, education, healthcare, robotics, virtual realityaugmented realityautonomous vehicles, wearables and the Internet of Things (IoT). 5G Ultra Wideband service uses new radio technology and device hardware to deliver advanced capabilities to consumers and businesses. When customers move outside Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband coverage area, 5G compatible devices automatically and seamlessly hand off the signal to Verizon’s 4G LTE network, the nation’s best and most reliable 4G LTE network.           

"5G Ultra Wideband service is coming to Kansas City this year," said Kyle Malady, Verizon’s chief technology officer. “Today’s announcement is just the start for Kansas City and we’re excited to bring the game-changing power of 5G Ultra Wideband service to consumers, business and government agencies in 2019. Verizon continues to lead in 5G. We launched the first commercial broadband 5G service last October, Verizon 5G Home, and turned up our 5G Ultra Wideband network in Chicago and Minneapolis, providing the world’s first commercial 5G mobile service with a 5G-enabled smartphone.”

In addition to Kansas City, Verizon, today, also unveiled the names of 19 additional cities that will get 5G Ultra Wideband service in 2019. They are: Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Little Rock, Memphis, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, Providence, San Diego, San Jose and Washington DC.
