KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Feb. 22, 2019 – Spectrum today announced that the Urban League of Greater Kansas City is a recipient of its 2018 Spectrum Digital Education Grant Program. The Urban League of Greater Kansas City will receive $23,380 to offer digital education classes to help adults improve digital literacy, search for employment electronically, and become eligible to receive a digital device.

“Thanks to Spectrum’s Digital Education Grant Program, our Digital Spectrum Academy provides hundreds of participants with skills, resources and the technology needed to building their resumes, develop interviewing techniques and ultimately help them succeed in their career search,” said Gwendolyn Grant, President and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City. “With Spectrum’s ongoing investment in our efforts to bridge the digital divide, we can expand our focus on improving the lives of people in our community.”

The Urban League has already experienced a great deal of success with the Digital Spectrum Academy. Through the program, several participants have found full-time careers in the Kansas City area. To date, Spectrum has provided more than $57,000 in grant funding to the Kansas City Urban League to support their local outreach efforts.

“In our increasingly technology-driven world, the importance of digital education and access to digital resources cannot be overstated,” said Perry Watson, Area Vice President for Spectrum. “Through the Spectrum Digital Education Grant Program, we partner with leading community organizations like the Urban League to help bridge the digital divide and provide community members with the tools to grow and prosper in the digital age.”

The Urban League of Greater Kansas City and 22 other deserving nonprofit organizations were chosen from among more than 170 applicants as 2018 Spectrum Digital Education Grant recipients — part of an overall $1 million commitment by Spectrum to provide digital education in the communities it serves. Spectrum Digital Education grants support organizations that help educate families and seniors on the benefits of broadband and how to use it to improve their lives. Through the $1 million effort, Spectrum will also provide PSAs, workshops and other technical assistance to local nonprofits.
