(Kansas City, Missouri) – The Kansas City Artists Coalition (KCAC) is creating safe and affordable space for artists to work.

On January 26, the KCAC will officially cut the ribbon on the newly acquired artist studio space dubbed the “Wonder Studios” in the Wonder Lofts Building. The ribbon cutting event hosted by KCAC and the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a short program followed by a small reception, courtesy of Dona Fina Cafe and Ruby Jean's Juicery, and tour of the new studio space.

Face masks are required for this event.

This is the second artist studio space managed by the KCAC. The Wonder Studios are communal studio spaces for all artists who demonstrate a dedicated studio practice to create and grow their professional careers. The Wonder Studios are located in lower level of the Wonder Lofts at 2999 Troost Avenue in Kansas City, MO.

“We are excited to offer affordable artist studio space in Kansas City’s east side. Access to safe, affordable studio space for artists is a critical need right now. Wonder Studios and Acme Studios are both accessible 365 days a year, 7 days a week and both provide a safe space for artists to create and grow their professions,” said Marissa Starke, Executive Director, KCAC.

“In 2018, we asked the artist community what they wanted to see from the KCAC. The overwhelming answer was more studio space,” said Starke. “That led us on the path of reimaging how KCAC can best serve the community. In 2020, we moved into a new space in midtown Kansas City which, for the first time, provided artist studio space, while also keeping gallery space. This has proved invaluable for the Kansas City artist community,” said Starke.

Wonder Studios has 10 artist studio spaces and is currently at 50% capacity. Acme Studios has 10 artist studio spaces and is located in the lower level of the KCAC Galleries and Offices at 3200 Gillham Road. For information on how to apply for space in the Wonder Studios, visit https://kansascityartistscoalition.org/studios/. To tour the Wonder Studios, email information@kansascityartistscoalition.org.

The KCAC has been supporting Kansas City artists for more than forty-five years. KCAC is a nonprofit, artist-centered, artist-run alternative space, supporting artists at every level in their career through exhibitions, continuing education and artist studios.
