Kansas City Public Safety Coalition Statement on Mass Violence at Chiefs Rally

For too long, violent crime has been a reality in our communities, and this week’s mass shooting at Union Station brought this reality closer to all our hearts. The Kansas City Public Safety Coalition shares its collective outrage and deepest sympathies with the victims and their families as they experience a level of grief and loss that no one should ever have to endure. Our thoughts are with you now and in the challenging days ahead.

As a group made up of diverse perspectives, representing 18 business, civic, and interfaith organizations across the Kansas City region, we stand united in our advocacy for increased effort around common-sense solutions to violent crime in our city. There is more work to do to ensure every person in every part of Kansas City feels safe when at home or work or while enjoying community activities.

Wednesday’s violence went against the very nature of who we are as citizens of Kansas City. Sadly, it also reveals our current reality. Violent crime does not have to represent who we are as a community, and we stand ready to partner on real action that leads to lasting solutions that benefit all Kansas Citians.
