The rescue community in Kansas City is in crisis. There are too many animals in need, straining limited resources. One recent day, the City’s animal shelter housed 280 animals; its optimum number is 140-150. Some days they receive 40-60 new animals, while adopting out as few as five. Other local shelters are in a similarly dire situation. As a result, through the first half of this year, euthanasia in shelters is up a heartbreaking 150%.
