FROM THE KC CHAMBER’S PRESIDENT AND CEO
One year ago, Kansas City made history with the opening of CPKC Stadium, the first purpose-built stadium for a women’s professional sports team. But the KC Current haven’t just been playing soccer—they’ve been leading a movement. This stadium was more than a milestone; it was a statement that investing in women’s sports is a game-changer for business, economic growth, and our city’s future. Over the past year, we’ve seen that impact firsthand.
The once-undeveloped riverfront is transforming into a vibrant district, with new businesses, restaurants, and energy. National brands and corporate sponsors are taking notice, and fans from across the country keep coming, staying in our hotels, dining in our restaurants, and experiencing Kansas City at its best.
But the real magic is on the field. KC Current players have embraced our bistate community, playing with passion and purpose—not just for wins, but to make this region proud. Kansas City has always been a championship city, from the Chiefs’ Super Bowl dominance to the Royals’ World Series victories. Now, the KC Current are carrying that legacy forward, proving that women’s sports aren’t just worth supporting — they’re worth leading with.
As we kick off another thrilling season, the KC Chamber proudly hosted the KC Current Kickoff Luncheon on March 5, uniting business and community leaders to celebrate this team’s momentum. And on March 15, we’ll cheer as the KC Current open their 2025 season, ready to build on their success and make even more history.
One year in, we’re just getting started. Kansas City has set the standard, so let’s keep proving what’s possible when a region believes, invests, and acts together. Let’s keep leading.
