Healthy Communities

The Chamber can help with more than just business. Through advocacy, education, and collaborative problem-solving, we tackle the issues that affect our regional quality of life.

In 2015, the KC Chamber launched Tobacco 21 | KC to convince regional cities and counties to raise the legal age for purchasing tobacco products from 18 to 21. The effort included e-cigarettes, which had become increasingly popular with young people. We hoped to convince five cities to raise the age of purchase by 2018… and by that time, 25 communities had signed on, with more continuing to join since.

The KC Chamber later held a two-year Resilient KC campaign to raise awareness around trauma and the effects of adverse childhood experiences. It was a partnership between the Chamber and the group then known as Trauma KC, with support from Sesame Street in Communities.

Today, the Chamber encourages and celebrates health and wellness in the business community through the Healthy KC Workplace Wellness Certification program, in partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City.

In addition, the Kansas City Public Safety Coalition, of which the KC Chamber is a member, has expanded public safety conversations to include business, civic, and interfaith leaders who represent a diverse cross section of our community.  Because everyone deserves to feel safe where they live and work.
