The KC Chamber recently asked Emerson & Company, a 2024 Small Business Celebration Candidate Showcase KCNSC Fan Favorite, to tell us a little more about the company to help introduce you to this entrepreneurial standout.

Thank you to Tricia Jones-Shipps, Chief Operating Officer, and Tim Emerson, Founder and President, for taking the time to share about Emerson & Company. Enjoy learning more!

  1. Who is Emerson & Company and what does the company do?

Emerson & Company is a specialized provider of bookkeeping, payroll, insurance and merchant services. We leverage enterprise-level purchasing power to reduce costs and simplify processes for small to mid-sized businesses. Fractional CFOs and controllers turn to us because they see the benefit of bringing in a partner that can immediately offer ongoing cost savings to new clients with minimal effort or investment required.

At Emerson & Company, our team is spearheading dynamic expansion by implementing strategies that position us for substantial growth. Our goal is to ensure that our operations are efficient and effective, cultivating a thriving environment for both staff and clients.

Our team may be small, but we’re incredibly effective. Emerson and Co, LLC was founded in 2006 by Timothy H. Emerson Jr., who brings 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. Tim is driven by curiosity, determination, and a focus on creating value. By 2022, we had just four full-time employees and a few part-time contractors. That’s when Tricia Jones-Shipps joined us as Chief Operating Officer, leveraging her expertise in operations and process improvement. Tricia continuously aligns our daily operations with strategic goals to meet our clients’ needs. Today, our team has grown to seven full-time employees and three part-time staff.

  2. Why did you join the KC Chamber? What is the highlight of your membership?

Plus, I believe in the Chamber’s mission to foster growth and innovation in our community.
  3. What is the best part of doing business in the greater Kansas City region?

Kansas City was recently ranked by USA Today as one of the top 20 cities to start a business in the U.S., and it’s easy to see why. With a thriving startup ecosystem, numerous accelerators and incubators, and one of the highest rates of entrepreneurship in the country, Kansas City’s long-standing tradition of innovation continues to thrive.
